n this keynote, speaker Stephanie Zapata explores the current (read: shallow) state of sex education and the straight/white ties that bind them together. Is it white guilt, fear, or ignorance as bliss that keeps (sex) education siloed from the intersections of race and history? It’s time to let excuses fall at the wayside and push ourselves. By bringing the hard truth of historical sexual/reproductive oppression’s rooted in white supremacy to the forefront of our education we ensure that our students, clients, and communities feel seen, affirmed, and valued. In order to dismantle the hetero-white narrative that has become sex ed status quo, our practices, curriculums, policies and language must honor the contributions of Black, Brown, and Indigenous traditional cultures.
